The Office Depot circular ad for the week of June 21-27 has a trio of very tempting clearance laptops on the front page, all under $500 and all without rebates!
First up, for a $390, you can get the very usable Toshiba Satelite L305-S5921. Don't let the price scare you, this laptop is more than good enough for basic computer tasks. It has 2gb memory, a Pentium dual-core T3400 processor, a 15.4" widescreen display (16:10 ratio obviously), a 160gb hard disk, wifi, and the usual assortment of features you would expect from an entry-point laptop. These are solid specs at under $400, and it certainly beats netbooks that cost the same or more!
If you want to get more, then for $470 you can has the Toshiba Satelite L305-S5933 which gives you 3gb of memory and 250gb of hard disk space instead. It has the same screen-size and processor, and it includes a webcam with microphone for those teleconferencing *cough* *cough* sessions ;-)
But perhaps the jewel of this clearance crown (!) is the 17-incher Toshiba L355-S7902. For exactly $500 you can have a 17-inch display, 3gb of memory, 250gb of disk, an integrated numeric keypad (nice!), webcam wiht face recognition and microphone and things like that. The processor is a Pentium T3400 dual-core, with a 2 hour and 23 minute battery life. It is not a gamer's laptop by any means, but if you are one the people who prefer big screens on their laptops, you can't beat five hundred!
And a word of caution on ODP
If you haven't heard or seen or read already, be sure to read the Laptop Magazine expose before heading into Office Depot for these days - in case you have to deal with that type of an attitude!
